The Original Idea


Space battle is the first of all the scenes we designed, and it is also the scene that I am mainly responsible for.


In the beginning, we wanted to design this space battle as four players in the same spaceship, and different players are taking on different tasks. Let players not only feel the intensity of the space battle but also allow players to collaborate in this battle.


For example, player A is responsible for driving the spaceship and controlling the direction of the spaceship; players B, C, and D control the turrets on the spaceship to attack "Kun". But after careful consideration, we feel that it is extremely difficult to implement this program in such a short period of time. We modified it for the player to fly out of the spaceship and perform an invasion war.


Customer Engagement


When I made this space flight plan for my classmates to try, they all found it very boring. Because when the player first started flying in space, although it felt very novel, the whole process of flying to Kun was very boring and without challenge.

After testing the initial space flight idea to several students, I added the following mechanism to make the flight more objective and challenging:

  • Add a distance sign to the target point of "Kun"

  • Set up a meteorite heap on the path to "Kun". Players need to avoid the meteorite heap by controlling the direction key

  • Every time a player hits a meteorite, he will lose his health. If his health becomes 0, the mission will fail

  • Players can choose to press and hold down the CTRL key to accelerate fuel burning and accelerate flight in a short time

For the fourth acceleration design, we had problems adjusting the handle and lens control. After trying for a day or two, we didn't achieve the feeling of speeding through the meteorite, so we gave up this idea.
