Operation Trident - Brain Storm

The theme of this Netease minigame is "Kun", which is a legendary giant fish recorded in Chinese mythology.

Netease Minigame Theme

When we first saw this title, the first picture popped out in our mind as follows:

Ads related to "Kun"

This is a very popular Chinese Xianxia theme MMORPG advertisement during this period of time in China, but in fact, those games have nothing to do with "Kun". They just use "Kun" as a gimmick to attract players to download the game.

We kept "Kun" still a legendary giant fish, and as an imaginary enemy in the game. During several brain storms, we found another concept video "the Leviathan" released in 2015 on the Internet.

"Livia" in this video is a monster in the sea recorded in the Bible, which is very similar to the "Kun" in Chinese mythology. The epic battle scenes and futuristic spaceships in this video have greatly inspired us. We think it's a good idea to take the protagonist of the game as one of the soldiers and try to restore the fighting process between the soldier and the epic creature Kun. So we initially assigned several key tags to the game: FPS, PVE, vehicle shooting, cyberpunk art style, asymmetric battle arena game.

Modified Creature - "Kun"

But in the next few discussions, we repeatedly adjusted the direction. Since the entire project only lasts for 6 weeks, the project experience of our juniors is not enough, and we are extremely lack of artists manpower (at the beginning we didn’t even have 4 artists, only 2 artists was in the beginning In our team), we chose to refer to some mature game modes on the market.

We didn't find a game to refer to when shooting vehicles in space, and it was extremely difficult to implement. We finally gave up this idea. The space vehicle shooting was changed to an invasion battle. Instead of fighting against "Kun", it entered the body of "Kun" and used "Kun" as a combat scene to fight against space creatures in the body of "Kun". Besides, I proposed to make our game a multiplayer collaborative game. I'm a totally online game lover.

Game Key words

Our game was originally scheduled to contain 8 scenes. Due to the limitation of manpower, we finally produced 6 scenes, including four different gameplay: space war, invasion, defense, and elevator fight.

I was responsible for the design of the space battle and backend development in this project.
